Now celebrating our 13 Year Anniversary, The Forget-Me-Nots Organisation is a registered charity in Ireland (No. 20144661) offering an inclusive community choir for seniors, family, friends and neighbours and is especially welcoming to those affected by dementia and memory loss. Participants are drawn from the neighbourhood, the local HSE Day Care centres, The Alzheimer Society Social Clubs in the region, local residential nursing homes, and from the wider Dublin NorthEast community.
The choir was
founded in 2014 by three sisters, inspired by their mother, Kathleen Tierney,
who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and is led by award-winning Musical Director
and Composer, Norah Constance Walsh, whose creativity, and musical
expertise bring a unique energy to every rehearsal and performance. Our repertoire
combines much-loved nostalgic songs with new harmonic arrangements created by
Norah. We also love to take on the challenge of more recent songs, including
two brand-new compositions written by Norah especially for us. This balance
provides accessible musical enjoyment while giving every member a genuine sense
of purpose, challenge and achievement.
Over the years, we
have been proud to perform at a wonderful variety of venues and events, from
today at Dublin’s Convention Centre, to Áras an Úachtaráin, St Patrick’s
Cathedral and Croke Park, and further afield at Stormont Parliament Buildings
in Belfast, as well as in the more intimate surroundings of nursing and
residential homes.
Yet, while these
performances are wonderful milestones, our greatest achievement is the
friendships made, the confidence gained and the joy of knowing that every
member has a special place within our choir family where every voice matters,
every contribution is valued, and together we have created something magical.
